Ascension is in many ways a larger implimentation of what Jesus did in the resurrection.  It is bringing the physical body into such great harmony with God that it ascends eventually back to God rather than dying.  Only with ascension it is happening on a much larger scale.

So what Jesus Christ did 2012 years ago was like a seed planted within the world and our souls which has gradually stimulated this process for all of us.

It doesn’t matter if we are of a particular religious persuasion, this isn’t exclusive to Christianity.  The Christ is much older than the life of Jesus, it is just one of the incarnations of that elder part of our collective soul.
