It’s an honor to write for you on Thanksgiving.  To have a holiday with the explicit intention of gratitude — though we may forget that in the presence of awesome food! – I think is amazing.

Gratitude is an act of faith.  As we look ahead at the uncertainties of life, to be able to be grateful for what we have now and what we have received in the past shows an ability to step beyond fear into trust.  From trust flows gratitude.

The deepest and most challenging act of gratitude is the ability to be grateful for ourselves.  Gratitude for ourselves is a stage in our ascension journey.  Knowing as intimately as we do all of our weaknesses and apparent failures, vulnerabilities, anxieties… being grateful for ourselves is an expression of the higher reality of who we are in the ascended state; of our eternal oneness with the One.

Long ago, I had the gift of recognizing that I was always working for my Higher Self who is one with the One.  I just knew that.  I lived in that unity, which was joyful, powerful, blessed.  I lived out of my body, to be in that place which was my safety and assurance.  This allowed me to recognize something important – my inadequacies were part of my design.  I was perfectly engineered to become a leader of world healing and ascension.  I needed that clarity.

But maturing, I gradually learned to live also in my human self.  To be reliable for caring for a child, support people to overcome their limitations, to heal, ascend, heal others.  I learned to build and maintain relationships with all the discomfort and the gifts they bring.  I have learned how hard it is to maintain the perspective I once owned so easily and sweetly.  Being grounded right here, moment by moment, within my most human levels of experience it takes deeper trust to own it.  I’ve had to build a new kind of love and gratitude for my human self with all my vulnerabilities, fallibility, emotional and mental negativity.  Living outside of my body, I was never bothered by these things.  I effortlessly rose above them.

This is my cutting edge for ascension: the acceptance, forgiveness, and yes – gratitude – for these lower human parts of myself.  This is the essence of unconditional love.  It is easy to be unconditional when your focus is entirely spiritual.  Not so in these denser layers of human experience.

I have been teaching people for 40 years both to access their spiritual selves and to heal their human selves.  Now I ask you to join me in working to be grateful for your own selves.  This is a phase of ascension required to get humans out of the morass of hatred, jealousy, greed, blame, opposition and fear.  Within us, we each have an opportunity to heal ourselves, love ourselves unconditionally, be grateful for our weaknesses, vulnerabilities, strengths, successes, and apparent failures.  We have an opportunity to trust that we are each perfectly designed to play our roles in the world as we ascend.  We can accept the perfection of our imperfection!

Leonard Cohen wrote an amazing song – “How the Light Gets In”

The chorus goes:

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack in everything

That’s how the light gets in

(Take time to google him performing this – It is deeply humble, true, and beautiful on all levels)

What if your weaknesses and faults are not bad?  What if they are how the light of Higher Self and the One can enter the old world to transform, heal and ascend us?  I propose that this is the case!  There are no accidents, and each person’s Higher Self agreed to play a role on the stage of life…moment by moment, affecting others and our own experiences.  Sometimes our effects seem to be hurtful, but what if those are necessary hurts causing us and others to grow, to let the light in, to ascend?

This is what I believe is going on in our little moments and experiences and on the world stage.  We are each playing the role as designed.  We can only do that.  Others may take umbrage or be hurt by us, or us by them.  This is the script we must play.

The choice we can make that takes us beyond the scripted old-world play is to love unconditionally.  To be grateful.  To see ourselves as perfect just as we are, and all others as well.  To trust.

Why does the world need to be chaotic on every level right now?  I propose that it is to cause us to give up our belief that we can fix it and make the old world a better old world!  It is dying, and it is a mess, and we are all still a part of it for awhile yet.  What do we do once we stop trying to fix it?  We can choose to trust, let things work out, build the new world within our own selves and our lives.

Forgiveness, compassion, trust, unconditional love are things which can only begin within relationship to ourselves.  We can’t give them to others until we find them within, and it is hard!  But it is also as easy as surrendering (which can be easy or hard depending on how you look at it).

Gratitude for self, and trust of self can be born of self-forgiveness.  Of unconditional love.  Unearned, and completely ours by right.

This Thanksgiving, take a few moments to open your heart to yourself.

1 – To hold yourself, your heart and belly, in a deep, warm, hug.  To hug past the feelings of unworthiness until you find acceptance, compassion, and love within your heart for yourself.

This act will break through the defenses and judgments you have erected throughout your lifetimes.  Crying will be helpful if your heart can open and allow it to wash you clean.  But it isn’t required.

2 – Welcome Higher Self and essence of truth of God to enter in through the cracks of your old-world self to bring light and healing to assist your ascension into unity and wholeness.

3 – From there you cab begin to recognize the rightness and importance of your human experiences, foibles, and failures.  You can learn to honor them as necessary gifts to the world, though possibly not yet understood. To trust the greater good that flows through you always.

You are a part of the whole world.  When you let the light into the cracks within your own old world human self, it enters the whole world and helps others to heal and ascend.

This may be the hardest work I’ve ever asked you to do.  Will you do it?  Our world needs your gift.  You will not be alone in this exercise…  I will be doing it too.
