People often ask me about my approach to healing.
There is no simple answer to this question because each person Iwork
with is a complex and unique being and so each healing reflects
the specific needs of that individual. However, there are some basic
ways of looking at healing that are consistent through all the work
that I do.
An important aspect of spiritual healing is the way a Healer Practitioner
sees the individual. One primary way of looking at an individual
would be to describe them as an eternal, spiritual Being living
within an animal body. Each eternal Being is a powerful, wise facet
of the Source from which all life springs (by whatever name you
choose to call that). When an individual Being chooses to incarnate
into a human body, they have the adventure of being a human.
An early adventure in the life of any incarnating spirit is the
act of incarnating itself. The huge and masterful divine consciousness
has to find its way into a tiny body which is initially composed
of only two cells! At first the body is too small for the spirit
to live within and so it forms a delicate bond with the body which
is often called the golden cord. As the body matures over many years,
the spirit increasingly inhabits the body and becomes quite focused
into the world of physical form. During this process the spirit
often forgets that it is a spirit and identifies instead with its
human form. Ideally as a person matures, they seek to remember their
spiritual self and the truth of who they are. This is an adventure
indeed!
Another aspect of the adventure of being human is that our body
is pre-programmed by our hereditary ancestors to hold certain strengths,
gifts, limitations and weaknesses. Add to that the vulnerability
of a child to their environment and we find that here is where the
"life-lessons" of the individual are set. These life-lessons
are imprinted into the physical matter of our bodies, influencing
our choices and behaviors on very unconscious levels through body
chemistry, genetic encoding as well as social programming and experiences.
As the spiritual Being begins to incarnate fully due to greater
maturity of the body, its life purpose comes up against limitations
in energy and consciousness of the body. Here is where the real
work begins. The eternal Being has now come to the time in their
incarnation when they can begin to create their own life within
the body they were given. The limitations they are pre-programmed
with which we earlier termed their life-lessons are the very tools
that will focus the individual toward whatever goal their eternal
self has for this life. Somehow the person has to overcome their
socially programmed assumptions about who they should be, about
success or failure and begin to see the true direction of their
life's work. That direction lies within them and the way to self-fulfillment
may be discovered through circumstances their wise eternal Self
chose for them in this life. There is an important point to all
of this. Each individual has a unique and valuable role to play.
We can't all be fabulously rich or beautiful. What would be the
point in that? The human consciousness needs to learn to honor the
wisdom and power within them and learn the reason why they are here.
As spiritual healers, this is where we come in. As we look at an
individual with the focus of spirit, we are able to perceive the
power of the eternal being which is seeking to express itself through
their human body. Where we see a point of struggle or dis-ease,
physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually, we know that is
where the answer lies. Within that struggle we see the eternal Self
trying to find its way toward fulfillment of its goals but meeting
up with resistance in the unconscious and socially programmed assumptions
about life in the body. Our job as Healer Practitioners is to help
the spirit and the animal self to agree on what they want to do.
Along the way to reaching that goal, we need to help the person
to release the physical, emotional and mental toxins they have built
up around these issues so they can get on with what they came here
to do. Those toxins may take the form of disease in any of its aspects
from physical to mental, to the inability to feel successful in
work or relationships, handle money, etc. All forms of dis-ease
(lack of comfort) are symptoms of the real problem, they are the
flag that gets our attention and causes us to take a deeper look
into our selves and to find our own way to fulfillment.
It is important when we as people run into these blocks in our lives
that we learn to see them as messages indicating a need to choose
something more in harmony with the purposes of our eternal Self,
rather than seeing our selves as failures or as victims.
Years ago, a wise massage therapist helped me with this issue. I
had tried many careers in my life with limited success and was feeling
discouraged and incompetent. As I sobbed on her massage table, she
gently said that she believed I would probably be good at anything
I truly enjoyed doing! A light bulb went off within me. Later that
day, I asked spirit what I would be good at. It was at that moment
that I received a very strong message to open a healing practice.
When I asked how I would help people, I was told that I would know
when they came. I loved the idea! I still do, after 17 years. Thank
goodness for the wisdom of that woman, I could still be beating
myself up for not being good at something I didn't like to do anyway!
Each of us has a reason for being here. It is essential not to judge
the value of that reason, each one is valuable. Many of my family
members now consider me a failure because they don't like my "weird"
ideas. I choose to feel successful anyway, because I love my life
the way it is. I would be a failure in my own eyes if I tried to
do what would look good to them, because then I wouldn't be happy.
Strange as it may seem, most diseases are caused by unconscious
assumptions and beliefs about our self that are contrary to the
direction our eternal Being chooses to go. However, it is the discomfort
of the disease which draws our attention toward the issue that needs
attention. When we, as people, make choices in harmony with our
true purpose, we find healing. Sometimes a particular disease is
just a short lesson, it is over quickly as soon as we claim our
power in a circumstance. Sometimes a disease is a life-lesson, it
will be something we continue to grow and learn from for a significant
part of our life. When this happens, be confident, that what you
are learning from it is worth the challenge. There is no accident
in the universe. You Are Important.
