Reading Auras
by Eve Wilson

Reading auras is a skill which is invaluable to a spiritual healer. It is as central to the work Richard and I do as it is for those we train through The Accelerated Healer Development Program. At some level all people perceive auras, but you may not recognize it as such. Reading this article, you may begin to recognize how you, perhaps unconsciously, read auras as an integral part of your daily life. Once you realize how natural this skill is, you can begin to pay attention to it and develop the skill deliberately.

An aura is the vibrational energy field out of which the physical world is born. It surrounds and interpenetrates the physical. All life is composed of vibrational fields of energy resonating at different frequencies or speeds. The range of vibrations that most people recognize is what we call the world of form and physical sensation. The ranges of vibrations that are not as obvious to some people's senses include energies of emotion, thought and spirit.

As a spiritual healer, I have become very conscious of the world of the aura and have learned to interpret the subtle vibrations of body, emotion, mind and spirit quite accurately. These skills allow me to understand, often better than my client does, the issues which are blocking their well being. The skill of perceiving and interpreting the aura is not mental, but is an extension of the body, the senses and the emotions and the understanding comes as a feeling sense or inner knowing.

What can be perceived in the aura is unlimited, because the vibrations of life exist everywhere and are everything that exists. As one becomes more attuned to the subtle vibrations you can access information about everything that has existed or happened and everything that will. The difficulty is in interpreting correctly what is perceived. Practice does eventually make a person good at it. I often use the analogy of a person who loses their sight and suddenly has to learn everything by touch, like reading Braille. At first it seems impossible, but with time and practice, it becomes easy. Reading auras, I think, is a similar skill.

A good example of how the ability to read auras is an innate part of a person would be the way that you may be sensitive to the "atmosphere" in a room of people. Upon entering a room, you may be aware of an atmosphere of emotion, even if everything looks normal, you may have a feeling about what has been going on there. You may say that this awareness is based on body language, which is partly true. But there is more going on, and if you are sensitive and pay attention, you'd be surprised how much you already know about the situation without even talking to someone about what happened. If you have developed a sensitivity to atmosphere in this way and learned to interpret body language and other subtle cues, it is a simple step to begin to read auras, it is exactly the same skill taken to a higher level. If you are very sensitive you might have already sensed what was going on in that room before you arrived. There might have been some discomfort or anxiety that you felt as you pulled into the driveway or entered the building, before you even saw anyone at all. Reading auras is merely an extension and more refined development of these very same gifts. People who are not sensitive in this way will have to work much harder to be able to read auras, but it can be done. This type of sensitivity is passed on genetically, like a musical ear. If you don't have the genetic musical ear you can still learn to play music, but the skill will be harder to learn. It is the same with vibrational sensitivity.

A simple exercise to develop your higher senses is to first get relaxed and focused by breathing peacefully and being fully present in the current moment. Then project yourself in your imagination into an activity or event in the very near future and notice any feeling perceptions that come to you about it. Ask yourself, what will it be like? How will I feel about that situation when I am in it? What will happen while I am there? Is this a place where I belong, or am I better off not going? Relaxing through any anxiety, fears and preconceived notions about the situation ask these questions one at a time. After each one be quietly aware of your body and emotions, notice what feeling impressions come to you. Later, when you go there, see if your perceptions about it were correct. It will take practice to learn to interpret the feelings correctly, so give it a try and interpret what you feel to your best ability. Once you are there, you will get more information from the experience about what your intuitive feelings were telling you. Paying attention to what you feel will develop a greater ability to interpret those same feelings next time they come up.

A simple next step in developing this skill would be to make decisions about what to do or not based on the feelings you get when doing the exercise. When you act on your intuition, your intuition grows. When you ignore it, it recedes from consciousness and becomes harder to access. Acting on your intuition is a simple way to develop trust in your higher senses and practice will hone this skill to a fine art. The information you receive when doing the exercise is the aura or energetic vibrations around that event. With practice you could develop that same sensitivity for the purpose of interpreting the energetic aura around another person as in a healing treatment.

If you are like many people, you probably receive intuitive flashes of information periodically and ignore them. Like the time one of my clients was driving at night down a snow covered road and felt strongly that she should turn around and take a different route. She was very sad she hadn't listened to that message when a truck front ended her. Definitely a live and learn kind of opportunity! Or the time I had a sudden longing for a dog. After resisting the idea for a week I meditated on it and realized that my guides had picked out a dog for me! Through following a series of hunches I was led to this dog and he is just as wonderful as you could imagine. When I called the breeder, he was surprised to hear from me because he had just decided to sell a dog, perfectly matching the description I gave him, the day before! Intuitive flashes like these are an unconscious use of the same skills that allow you to read auras. It is all vibrational sensitivity. Follow your hunches even if they don't make sense and you will be developing this skill. Your life will also work much better. So have fun.
