TThe Open Heart of Healing
by Eve Wilson

In spiritual healing we say that illness is created in us when, within a certain aspect of our self, the consciousness of love is damaged or missing. Within this aspect there will arise for one reason or another, a belief that we are unworthy of love or that we have in some way been abandoned or hurt and therefore close our heart to love to that extent. Most of the time, the loss of the consciousness of love is stored in a particular part of our body or soul, allowing the rest of the person to release consciousness of the wound, or at least forget it for a while. In this way, we go on from our woundings and feel that we are now recovered from whatever it was. However, a stored wound does not go away, it instead becomes a magnet which draws to the individual experiences which support the negative belief, whatever it is. Also, the part of the body where the issue is stored becomes vulnerable to accident, disease or psychosomatic illness. This is the way the unconscious self seeks to become conscious again and to become healed. Unfortunately, these layers upon layers of hurtful experiences are just as likely to deepen our trauma unless we work to heal the issues around the wound. This is what spiritual healing does. And when the wound is healed at that level, the spirit, mind, emotion and body become whole once again. I have seen rapid and total healing of all kinds of disease when the traumas surrounding it were cleared.

One common element is central to all true healing. That element is the return of the consciousness of love to the issues surrounding the disease. The primary way that we can reawaken that consciousness of love and bring healing is through the heart chakra. The heart chakra is a spiritual organ located in the center of the chest and focused through the physical thymus gland which is the primary gland of the immune system creating the T cells which play such an important role in our health. The heart chakra functions like a transformer, turning spirit into physical form, and physical form into spirit ; transforming toxic energies into love and providing a conscious focus within our body for our eternal spirit to commune with the world of form. It is the center of heart to heart communication by which we come to understand and love others as well as experience love and understanding for ourselves. When we experience a wounding which causes us to feel unloved, unloving and separate from the divine or from other people, the flow of life-giving love between the wounded part of our self and the heart chakra may be damaged. Following which occurrence, that part of us begins to die, thereby becoming vulnerable to disease as well and, like a magnet, drawing to us similar issues to the original wound. The solution to this problem begins with an opening of the heart chakra to the wounded self, thereby restoring the possibility of healing and life to that aspect of our self. The open heart chakra is the same thing that we mean when we say the open heart. Obviously, the physical heart doesn't need to open, it is the emotional, spiritual heart we are referring to or the heart chakra.

Opening the heart chakra to a place of wounding will incite a temporary experience of the pain from that wounding. It requires an acceptance of the pain and a trust in the love which is present within each of us and can heal us. As the heart chakra is open to and touching the wound, the pain and disease begin to transform. The experience of the transformation is an awesome sense of the toxic energies rising up like smoke through the heart chakra and dissipating into an energy which smells like ozone (like when lightning strikes and the air becomes alive and clean during a storm). There is a feeling of release, perhaps tears or sighs may accompany it and the body immediately begins to feel better, the spirit lighter and there is a return of a sense of joy.

The willingness of the person in need of healing to once again touch the wound, with the energy of the ever-present love within their heart, is central to healing. Much of the work of the healer is to help an individual come to the point of being ready and able to do that. Once the connection between heart and wound is made the healing release comes easily and quickly.
So, a simple suggestion for all people who walk this planet is to keep your heart open. Even if that means you are not in control of your emotions sometimes. Maybe you will cry, maybe you will be vulnerable; perhaps you will have to own your sadness or pain, but do it. It may save your life, but more importantly, it will make the life you have a beautiful experience of the presence of divine love within the challenges of our world. You are always loved and always safe. You are safe because you are eternal and nothing can ever truly hurt you. The one that can be hurt is a temporary story that the creator within you is telling to fill eternity with interest. No story is interesting without its hurts and challenges, without the great testing of our souls and the overcoming of apparently insurmountable obstacles. Try to think of your life as a good movie and think how fun it will be to watch it within the context of eternity and all of the growth and learning that happens through your many lives. Sometimes you are powerful and successful, sometimes you are weak and vulnerable, sometimes you are wise, sometimes you are foolish, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. But you always win in the long run. Keep your heart open and keep the long view. It's all going to be O.K.

Blessings and love, Eve
